That is my grade in black and white!!!!
Aug. 18th, 2008 | 10:54 am
Oh yeah.

Whoa!!! Totoo ba yun?!?!?!?! J192 (ethics) at 1.25, while J198 (internship) ar UNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Wooohoooooo!!! Wahahahaha.
At syempre, di makukumpleto ang moment na ito kung walang song from Legally Blonde the Musical. Hahaha Greek Chorus!!! Sing with me!!!
*sings* "Is that my grade up on that list?
Does someone know that I exist?
Is this a mistake?
Am I even awake?
Pinch me now to make sure....
That is my grade in black and white
Maybe I'm doing something right
I feel so much better than before"
(Para sa mga hindi nakakaalam ng kantang ito, hanapin ninyo sa YouTube ang Legally Blonde the Musical, at hanapin ang part ng So Much Better na Part10 ata. Kung wala, puntahan ninyo dito http://www.dailymotion.com/l3g4llybl0nd3/1)
At syempre, kuha naman ng calculator at compute for the GWA. 1.625. Yehey!!! CS na ulit ako!!! Hahahaha. (kanta ulit... that is my grade in black and white...wahahaha). Woohoooo!!!
Na-high ako dito ah. Hahaha. Pero as I've said before, ayoko na maging GC (dahil masakit sa ulo at nakakastress), although sana mamaintain ko ang GWA na 'to. Haha. Natuwa naman ako at CS ako last sem after two sems of not being one. Hehehe.
At least, may maganda akong balitang natanggap ngayong Agosto. The only good news I've received so far. Pero go go go lang!!! Hehehe

"Paano susukatin ang isangdaang taon?"
Aug. 15th, 2008 | 11:57 am
Kagabi, nanood kami nina Dyan, Lau, JM at Jen ng re-staging ng Pamantasang Hirang (Centennial Concert) sa theater. Nung June ko pa gusto panoorin sa CCP, pero di ko napanood. Buti may re-stage. :D
"Paano susukatin ang isangdaang taon?" - sabi ng isang line dun sa unang song. Naisip ko kaagad yung song na "Seasons of Love" hahaha sabay hirit naman kami ni JM ng "525,600 minutes... how do you measure a hundred years?" Minultiply pa by 100 ang 525,600 minutes. Haha. Nung kinakanta to, medyo kinilabutan ako dun sa slowly bumukas na yung ilaw sa may bandang likod ng stage, after nung mga solo parts, at andun pala ang UP choirs. Astig! Parang kala mo walang tao bilang madilim, sabay meron pala.
JM: Nakakastress!
Lau: Akala ko ba pangde-stress natin 'to?
Waz. Oh well.
Tapos super astig nung may five pianos and five pianists sa stage!!! First time kong makapanood/makarinig ng ganun. Nakakakilabot yung first part. Haha. Ang gagaling nung mga tumugtog.
Nag-enjoy naman kami manood. At syempre nakita pa namin si Kumi!!! Go Pep Drummers!!!
The play told the history of UP, how it changed etc etc. Tapos nung pinakita na yung present UP generations, di ko nagustuhan. It reduced today's UP students to mere coños and pa-cute people who have nothing else to do but comment on one another's fashion sense. It failed to reflect the diversity that UP has today - diversity in terms of political views, ideas, skills etc. UP students today may not be the same as those who lived during, say, the time of the First Quarter Storm. But the current generation is way more than what was seen on stage.
Medyo nalungkot lang ako dun.
At for more disappointment, the "UP Naming Mahal" was sung in English. After that, it was sung in Filipino, with which we sang along.
Dun ata sa part na parang sinasabi niya na parang the best way to celebrate 100 years is through art and not through something. Basta ganun yung essence.
Haay bakit ba sya ganun?

Buhay 4th year
Aug. 5th, 2008 | 09:02 am
Ayan. Nakapagnakaw rin ng oras para makapagblog. Hahaha.
Grabe talaga! The past two weeks had been super mega hell. As in. As in super! Waah di ko maemphasize. I've been distributing my sleep, if you could call it as such, throughout the night (or day?). When I get home at aroung 7 or 8 p.m., I would eat dinner, sleep for about two or three hours, then wake up at around 12 midnight or 1 a.m, then proceed to do acad stuff. I would finish at around 3:30 a.m. or 4 (or a little beyond that), then go back to bed and wake up, err, be waken up by my mom or whoever at 5:30 a.m., with the waking up session extending until 6:30 a.m. I would finally "wake up" at around 6:40 a.m., go straight to the bathroom to take a bath, and leave the house without eating any breakfast (or I just eat my breakfast while riding the bus). If my mom insists that I eat breakfast before leaving the house, I arrive super late in school. Well, in any case, I arrive in my 8:30 classes late. Haha. Except when the prof is late too or when the prof doesn't care if you're late or not.
Kakapagod mga kaibigan. As in. So alam kong hindi ako nag-iisa. Haha. Haay grabe! Don't provoke stressed people!!! *evil laugh*
Even my weekends weren't spared from stress. Had to sleep late and wake up early (or was that sleep early in the morning and wake up early in the morning as well?).
At yehey may bibong apps!

First CLA, Parents' Day etc
Jul. 19th, 2008 | 10:52 am
After Parents' Day, I felt sooooo happy because it was successful and relieved as well. Natapos na rin ang one month and two weeks (I think) of worrying about Parents' Day. Nakakatuwa, lalo na when I was watching them from the sound booth. Tapos nung scene na nung All I have to Give, Wannabe hanggang matapos, I thought it was just perfect.
Ang ganda!
= = =
First CLA kanina for the school year. First CLA ko din. Palagi kasi akong may Saturday class kaya hindi ako nakakapagCLA. The only time I went to CLA before was during the CLA Christmas Party 2006, when Danigirl was the CLA head. Since di naman nagturo that time, sa CLA kanina ko lang naexperience yung "real" CLA. Ang saya pala magCLA!
Sana dati pa ko nakakapunta. Anyway, it's not yet too late naman di ba? This sem, I don't have Saturday classes. I can CLA.
Kor and I handled the Grade 5 and 6 kids. Nakakatuwa. Participative naman sila, and I can see that they really want to learn and are interested. They give examples. They recite. Ang saya!
Maganda pa yung origami activity as icebreaker. Di lang talaga ko magaling magtupi ng mga papel and do crafts hahaha.
Some kids were calling me Ate Katkat with the "a" pronounced as "e". So it sounded like Ate Ketket. Haha.

Carillon and Thesis on a Monday
Jul. 7th, 2008 | 07:30 am
This morning, I was reading stuff at the CMC Skywalk, and then I fell asleep (Monday morning hello). Just then, I was awakened by the sound of Lupang Hinirang coming from the carillon. Shucks ang ganda! It wasn't my first time to hear music from the carillon, but the Lupang Hinirang from the carillon was just soooooooo amazing! So amazed I was that I forgot to stand for the national anthem. Haha. I just stared at the carillon from one of the windows the CMC Skywalk while the Lupang Hinirang was being played. Haha. Ano yun nahypnotize ng carillon? Wahahaha! Di naman. Ang ganda lang nung tunog. Grabe! Hello Monday morning!
Di pa nagrereply si Ma'am Diaz about our thesis topic. We emailed her a mind map of the specific topics Dyan and I had conceptualized based on our general topic (citizen journalism). Waz wala pang reply. I sent that yesterday. We want to know if we can already choose from the specific topics we have submitted, or if we have to think of another general topic or other specific topics or what. Haha. Ano 'to napapraning sa thesis? Well, thesis writing is worth being paranoid about. Haha. Tama ba? Or is it just me?

Gawad Plaridel
Jul. 4th, 2008 | 10:09 am
Ayun. So nasa Gawad Plaridel kami kanina dahil lahat ng CMC students ay kailangang andun. This year's awardee is Pachico Seares, editor-in-chief of Sun.Star Cebu. It's nice that the awardee is from a community newspaper, because it shows that the importance of community journalism is recognized.
Ang ayaw ko lang sa awardee ay yung sinabi niya na "good journalism is good business." I agree with Tony na bakit ineequate agad sa profitability? Sabi niya, sana daw equated muna sa good advocacy bago sa profitability. Yes Tony. Hear Hear.
At kumanta pa ang UP Madrigal Singers. Waaz. Grabe lang ang All I Ask of You nila (yes, yung sa Phantom of the Opera). Grabe! Ang galing! Mga reaction namin ranging from "OMG!!!" to "awwwwwwww." Natunaw ako at mga friends ko! Grabe! Syem[re Madrigal singers yun eh. What would anyone expect? Ang galing talaga! :D
On to another topic, my sprain is better, although di pa 100% back to normal yung walking. I'll go to ICTUS on Monday for the practice. Pero I won't dance na. I can't eh. I'll supervise the practice and do the things I have to do.
Ayun na muna for now. Wala na 'ko masulat for today. Hehe.

Pressure rising.. hahaha
Jun. 9th, 2008 | 10:07 am
Oh my! Waaah! Last night, I dreamt of the ICTUS Parents' Day. We have one month to go before that production, and I feel panicky (is there such a word?) even if I'm not literally panicking. I just feel it. Probably because I'm nervous or what. I've never directed or led a production before. It's as if I don't know what to do or how to manage the practices. I know the Execom is there to help and everyone is going to participate. Waah! It's just me feeling nervous.
My dream? The Parents' Day was soooooooo bad! In my dream, we weren't able to do the dance number for the finale anymore because we did not have enough time to practice it. Plus, the production was boring, the venue sucks, etc etc. The play was sloppy - yung tipong "ha? yun na yun?" Waaah! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
I'm telling all these to you because there's a saying/belief/whatever it's called that when you have a bad dream, tell it to people so it won't come true. Haha! I hope this dream won't come true. Rather, the opposite must happen, just like in the choir workshop. Honestly, a week before the choir workshop, I dreamed of it (wahahaha shucks my projects haunt me in my dreams!!!). What happened? It wasn't organized well. Lots of things came up etc etc. It was as if we didn't plan or prepare for it. Waah! That was my dream. What really happened was the opposite.
Haha. Shucks ano ba to? Relax. Breathe in. Breathe out. Hahahaha!

Hahahaha!

Choir workshop with In Laude
Jun. 7th, 2008 | 08:50 am
As in super thanks to In Laude for the choir workshop. Grabe! Ang galing magturo at mag-explain (at kumanta syempre
). We learned a lot from you guys, and I promise gagamitin namin lahat yun sa ICTUS choir. Super thank you! I couldn't thank you enough! Haha. Basta thank you!
And to all those who came kanina, super thank you rin. I'm sooo happy to see your eagerness and willingness to learn. And thank you for staying for the practice. And I'm sooo happy when you said that you got inspired to sing because of the workshop. I'm so happy. I guess it's a dream come true for every choir head - that his/her members are inspired to sing. Tapos yung practice kanina, kahit sabi ko hanngang 2:30 pm, you still stayed until 3 pm (or past 3 na ba yun). At syempre KC, halos 4 pm na tayo umalis. Haha! Thank you! Ang sarap niyo turuan kanina. Hahahahaha. Shucks naglilitanya na ko.
Let's keep this up ha. And not just for the choir. July 13 ang ating Parents' Day, where we are going to stage a production for our parents. Galingan natin at magpractice tayo.
Ok Ok?
And Danigirl, thank you thank you! You know the things I am thankful for.
Hehe.
Waaz kahit nappressure na ko with Parents' Day coming up at maraming kailangang ipractice... Haha. Basta practice tayo ha? Will phonebrig the sked.
Nyahahaha ang saya ko lang. Last week yung ASEAN inter-university conference. Syempre ang saya ko din nun. Tapos kanina yung workshop, choir stuff etc. Wahahaha

Post-IUC post
Jun. 2nd, 2008 | 10:00 am
Now that the 8th ASEAN Inter-University Conference is over, I feel soooooooooo blessed to have participated in it. I never thought that I could be in an event like that, much more present a paper, because I used to think that those who get to participate in conferences such as the IUC are the super-intellectuals, the geniuses, the summa cum laude/valedictorian types of students, the smartest people in the university. I'm just me - the perky, talkative journalism student and ICTUSian who loves to tell corny jokes that only she finds humorous. The perky, super hyper journalism major who always breaks into songs from musicals such as The Phantom of the Opera, and of course, Legally Blonde The Musical (and I'm not the only one ha). Shucks. I guess I surprised myself.
Of course, I didn't make it to the conference alone. My groupmates, Ate Peps and Ate Micah, worked twice as hard as I did. I learned a lot from them - from the paper-relates such as gathering data, organizing data, and presenting the data up to the things that reflect what kind of people they are. It was during the IUC when I learned that Ate Micah has a heart for Southeast Asian studies and migration issues, and that the passion she manifested in doing our paper is not because she wanted to ace the class but because our topic is very close to her heart. It was also during the IUC when Ate Peps showed how considerate she is with other people, and that her concern for her groupmates is not only there while working for the paper, but even when, should I say, "off-duty", like if I would be okay walking along to the LRT etc. I feel so blessed to have worked with them - these two journalism majors who are among the students I look up to.
And of course, I wouldn't forget our interactions with students, professors and researchers from other countries. There is Sukanya, the Thai delegate from Mahidol University who asked us how to go to Intramuros and with whom I chatted during one of the conference lunchbreaks. And I also learned from Dr. Bradley Freeman from the Nanyang Technological Institute in Singapore what Ma'am Encanto had been telling us about the Singaporean press - that it's a different context there and that investigative journalism cannot be as vigorous and hardhitting as it is in the Philippines.
And also, there is Magdalene Kong from the National University of Singapore. I learned from her that deaths of construction workers meeting accidents on site and dying at a hospital are not reported because those deaths are not deaths on site. And there's Elias, a professor from Zambia who is married to a Filipina at close na sila ni Ate Mics. Haha.
The IUC is such an enriching experience for me. It made me proud to be an Asian and to be part of the ASEAN that is working for the development of its member countries not in a way that would colonize its developing member nations but in a way that reflects the interests of ASEAN as a region. But establishing an ASEAN identity as a region, as pointed out during the conference, is difficult given its policy of non-intereference in the domestic affairs of its member countries.
Aside from the insights I got from the IUC, I also took with me a more optimistic attitude towards the bunch of work I still have to do for my remaining two semesters. That I need not fear doing our thesis because my CommRes101 gave me a solid foundation in doing research (hats off to Ma'am Aguila
), I have a wonderful, hardworking and reliable friend for a thesis partner (Dyan Michelle Zarzuela
), and we love our topic! Hehehe. The IUC also made me realize (again) that lofty goals are not impossible for me to attain as long as those goals are coupled with hard work, dedication and passion. It sounds cliche but it's true. Hehe. At sabi nga sa Legally Blonde The Musical, *sings* keep it positive!!! I shall sing that while doing our thesis. Hahaha.

8th ASEAN Inter-University Conference
May. 28th, 2008 | 10:58 am
I still can't believe that I'm actually a delegate. That we are delegates. Waah! Prang di pa rin tuluyang magsink in na we're actually going to present our paper in front of students, professors and delegates from different universities in different countries. Waz.
It's until the 31st. Will post a longer entry pag tapos na, with all the the things I've learned and other experiences. Basta ayun! Hehehe. I met a Thai girl pa kanina. Sabi pa nya I'm so friendly daw that's why journalism suits me. Hahaha!
More of this in the coming days.
I'm just soooo happy. And our names are on the program (sings.. that is my name in black and white.. maybe i'm doing something right.. i feel so much better than before) Wahahaha :P

Ang Noteworthy Composer *bow*
May. 24th, 2008 | 05:18 am
Yesterday, I encoded Ben E. King's Stand By Me (SSAB version) through the Noteworthy Composer. The limited number of saves I can do to the file kept me hoping that there would be no power failure or whatever that might cause the computer to shut down or be rebooted.
Ang saya pala mag-noteworthy! Lalo na pag-pineplayback.
But oh boy! It entails a lot of patience and tiyaga to be able to finish encoding one whole piece. I did not even encode the entire Stand By Me, since we're only going to sing a shorter version of it for the first few days of classes (it's the UA project called First Day Harana). While I was encoding, I imagined Danigirl doing the same last year for our caroling and Harana Express. She must have felt the same "how-do-I-go-about-this" when it was her first time to use the noteworthy composer, and she must have felt the same joy and relief upon playing back the whole piece when encoding was done.
I even entered the wrong values in I think one or two measures (but again, I was just copying from the music sheet!!!
), which gave me misaligned notes and rests that messed up the SSAB. It took me a while to find the erroneous measures and blamed the music sheet for it. Haha!
After I was done encoding, I uploaded the noteworthy file in the ICTUS Choir yahoogroup and posted a message for the choir. To tell you honestly, I'm nervous. What if I do not become effective in leading the choir? What if I weren't able to execute my plans and projects? What if I weren't able to help my co-Execom carry out our projects? Because of this, napanaginipan ko tuloy ang ICTUS Choir kagabi. Adik! Haha!
But I believe in the choir and I believe in the ICTUSians. We're all in this together (haha so high school musical). Kaya namin 'to!
Oh yeah!
